Best Ice Cream in Connecticut

Summer's here and it seems like everyone has their opinion as to where to find the best ice cream in Connecticut. Personally, I love 'homemade' ice cream and The Big Dipper in Prospect is a favorite. If you're an ice cream snob like me, I'm sure you'll find this list of the best places to go for fresh ice cream in Connecticut very helpful. Enjoy!

Rich Farm Ice Cream

Located at 691 Oxford Road in Oxford, Rich Farm Ice Cream is a CT favorite. This country style ice cream shop has original flavors like Cowabunga (coconut ice cream with pineapples), Cow Pie (chocolate ice cream with walnuts, raisins and chunks of chocolate) and Purple Cow (black raspberry ice cream with chocolate chunks.) Beginning in October, they have a cozy indoor dining room where patrons can enjoy a menu of soup and sandwiches. This CT ice cream shop is open from 11:30 am to 9:00pm 7 days a week. Buttonwood Farm Ice Cream

Located at 471 Shetucket Turnpike in Griswold, CT, Buttonwood Farm makes their own ice cream, whipped cream and even waffle cones. In addition to a long list of ice cream flavors like cotton candy, butter brickle and pumpkin, they offer several types of frozen yogurt and sorbet. Sweet Claude's

"We make our own" is the motto of Sweet Claude's in Cheshire, CT. The family owned ice cream shop is open between noon and 10:00 p.m. daily. While the shop doesn't accept credit cards, there is a nearby ATM. This quaint little shop offers a variety of delicious flavors including a special Bailey's Irish Creme ice cream. They also serve Tofutti and frozen yogurt. Visit: Sweet Claude's Ice Cream

Doctor Mikes

With locations in both Monroe and Bethel, Dr. Mike's Ice Cream is said to be one of the best ice cream shops in CT, though a little pricey. These two shops have tons of great reviews all over the web. While they don't have an official website, read: Doctor, Doctor, Gimme Ice Cream
